Best UX/UI Design Bootcamps in 2026: Designlab and 4 Real Alternatives
By Michael Okeje. Tuition, length and terms checked on each provider's official page on November 4, 2026.
Short answer
If you want a mentor-led career change into UX/UI design and can invest about $8,000, Designlab UX Academy is our top pick for its weekly 1:1 mentorship, four portfolio projects including a real client brief, and a tuition reimbursement program. Springboard is the closest alternative with a built-in externship. Ironhack is the fastest at 9 weeks full-time. If your budget is tight, the Google UX Design Certificate on Coursera or an Interaction Design Foundation membership cost a fraction of a bootcamp, but you get far less personal feedback.
One market note before you compare: the bootcamp field has shrunk. General Assembly, long a top name in UX bootcamps, now says on its own site that it has "concluded our consumer operations" and focuses on enterprise AI training. Check that any program you shortlist is still enrolling individuals.
The five picks at a glance

| Ironhack AI-Driven UX/UI Design Bootcamp | Instructor-led, full-time or part-time | 9 weeks full-time or 24 weeks part-time | Not listed on the US program page | Not stated on the page | Learners who can go full-time fast |

How we picked
We looked for programs that are enrolling individual learners today, publish their price or a clear way to get it, and cover the full UX process: research, information architecture, interaction and visual design, prototyping and usability testing. We weighted personal feedback heavily, because a portfolio reviewed by a working designer is the main thing a bootcamp sells over a cheap course. We did not enroll in these programs for this article; everything below comes from the providers' own pages, and we note where a detail was not published. If you want a checklist for any course, read our guide to evaluating an AI course before paying.
1. Designlab UX Academy: best overall for mentor-led career change
Designlab teaches only digital design, and UX Academy is its flagship program for people moving into UX, UI or product design.
How it works. Most students start with UX Academy Foundations, a 4 to 8 week introductory course at roughly 10 to 20 hours a week. It covers visual design principles, UI basics and Figma, includes 8 mentor sessions, and ends with a 10-hour design challenge that serves as your entry project for the main program. Experienced visual designers can apply straight to UX Academy. Foundations costs $499, and Designlab credits that cost toward UX Academy tuition.
The main program runs 21 weeks full-time (40 hours a week) or 36 weeks part-time (20 hours a week), with a self-paced option that gives you up to 18 months. Designlab says it involves more than 530 hours of lessons and projects, over 100 hands-on exercises, and four portfolio projects, one of them a client capstone with a real client. The curriculum now includes AI-assisted design workflows alongside research, interaction design, visual design, prototyping and testing.
Mentorship. Every student is matched with a 1:1 mentor for weekly video calls. Designlab says its mentors are working designers vetted for design skill and communication. You also get weekly peer critique sessions and access to the community on Discord.
Career support. After the curriculum you move into Career Services, with up to 26 sessions with a career coach covering portfolio, resume, interviews, networking and salary negotiation. Graduates also get an enrollment credit toward one of Designlab's advanced courses.
Cost (checked November 4, 2026).
| Payment option | With Foundations credit | Without |
|---|---|---|
| Pay upfront | $7,999 ($399 deposit + $7,600) | $8,499 |
| Six or ten interest-free installments (includes a $400 processing fee) | $8,399 | $8,899 |
| Long-term financing through Climb Credit | $9,632 to $11,809 total | $10,265 to $12,586 total |
New cohorts of Foundations and UX Academy start every month.
Tuition reimbursement. If you complete the program, meet the participation requirements, and do not land a qualifying design role within six months of graduation, you can have your tuition reimbursed. Designlab deliberately does not call this a job guarantee. Read the full terms before you enroll.
Who should skip it. The full path is long: Foundations plus 21 or 36 weeks, then the job search. Designlab itself says the design job market "is more competitive than it was a few years ago." If you cannot commit 20 hours a week for most of a year, or you only want to add UX skills to an existing role, a cheaper option below may suit you better.

Designlab also runs short AI-focused courses, including an AI Prototyping Camp that uses Figma Make and Lovable. If that interests you, our guide to building a website with AI is a free starting point.
2. Springboard UI/UX Design Bootcamp: best for an externship
Springboard's UI/UX Design Bootcamp is a 9-month, part-time online program. Springboard says most students spend 15 to 25 hours a week.
What you get. A 1:1 mentor, a career coach, four portfolio projects built into a portfolio site, a portfolio review by a design industry expert at the end, and a four-week remote externship with an established company. Job prep, including portfolio, resume, LinkedIn and mock interviews, continues for up to six months after graduation. Springboard has also added AI learning units across the curriculum, including AI for user research and personas.
Cost. Total tuition is $8,690. Paying upfront takes $1,500 off, to $7,190. A month-to-month option is $840 a month, and loan financing is offered.
The catch. Springboard's FAQ states that the UI/UX Design Bootcamp does not include the Springboard Money-Back Guarantee. If a refund or reimbursement condition matters to you, that tips the comparison toward Designlab.
3. Ironhack AI-Driven UX/UI Design Bootcamp: best for speed
Ironhack's UX/UI bootcamp runs 9 weeks full-time or 24 weeks part-time, the fastest route on this list if you can stop working for two months.
What you get. Modules cover user research, responsive design, prototyping, accessibility, UI design and project management, with AI-assisted workflows and Framer added for 2026. You finish with a portfolio of 3 to 6 projects and a final project that must include at least one AI-assisted workflow. Ironhack advertises career support for up to one year after graduation, a dedicated instructor, and an AI support tool for exercises. Students can also apply to Ironhack's TAP program for hands-on startup experience of up to 20 hours a week.
Cost. Ironhack's US program page does not list tuition. Ask admissions for the current price and financing for your location before comparing it with the others.
Who it suits. People who learn best with live instruction and a fixed schedule, and who can treat the bootcamp as a full-time job. The short length means less time for mentoring and portfolio iteration than the longer programs.
4. Google UX Design Certificate on Coursera: best low-cost structured path
Google's UX Design Professional Certificate is a beginner-level, self-paced course series on Coursera, built by Google employees. Coursera estimates about 6 months at 10 hours a week.
What you get. More than 200 hours of instruction, practice activities and assessments, hands-on work in Figma including wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes, and a portfolio with three end-to-end projects. Completers can apply to jobs through Google's employer consortium.
Cost. Coursera says that in the US and Canada it charges $49 a month after a 7-day free trial, so most learners finish for under $300. Prices may be lower in other countries.
The trade-off. There is no personal mentor reviewing your work. Many people use it to test whether they enjoy UX before paying for a bootcamp. For more options like this, see our best online learning platforms comparison.
5. Interaction Design Foundation: best membership for self-learners
The Interaction Design Foundation (IxDF) sells a membership rather than a bootcamp. Its current plans are Student at $9 a month and Professional at $12 a month, both billed annually, and Design League at $99 a month billed monthly. Membership covers its library of 43 courses with certificates, plus templates for research, portfolios and AI workflows. IxDF offers a 14-day money-back guarantee and lets you cancel anytime.
Who it suits. Working designers, developers and product managers adding UX knowledge, or disciplined beginners who will build portfolio projects on their own. It does not replace the portfolio feedback and career coaching of a full bootcamp.
Bootcamp or cheaper course: how to decide
- Choose a mentor-led bootcamp (Designlab, Springboard) if you are changing careers, need accountability, and want a working designer to critique your portfolio. Compare the refund terms carefully, because they differ.
- Choose a fast, intensive bootcamp (Ironhack) if you can go full-time for two months and learn well in a structured class.
- Choose a low-cost course (Google on Coursera, IxDF) if you are still testing the field, upskilling in your current job, or need to keep costs low.
Whichever you pick, start building AI into your workflow now. Our list of AI tools for designers and our guide to AI for product and design teams cover the tools hiring managers increasingly expect you to know.
Verdict
For most career changers with the budget and time, Designlab UX Academy offers the strongest mix of structure, weekly 1:1 mentorship, real-client portfolio work and a tuition reimbursement program. Springboard is a credible alternative if an externship matters more to you than a refund condition. Ironhack wins on speed. If you are not yet sure UX is for you, spend under $300 on the Google certificate first, then decide.
