Are there free Gemini courses with certificates or badges?

Yes, at real scale. Google Cloud Skills Boost hosts 300-plus courses whose completion badges are free, including Gemini-focused content and the expanded Generative AI learning path, and across Google's five learning platforms (Skillshop, Cloud Skills Boost, Play Academy, Google Developers, and grow.google) more than 500 courses include a free certificate or badge. The free tier covers selected individual courses and their completion badges; the hands-on skill badges with timed labs typically need credits or a subscription, which Google gives away free during events.

What is the difference between a completion badge and a skill badge?

Completion badges certify you finished a course's content and are free on eligible Cloud Skills Boost courses. Skill badges are earned by passing a timed, hands-on challenge lab, which makes them more credible to employers, but the labs usually require a subscription or access credits. The free path to skill badges is Google's event promotions: free learning passes and credits appear around Google Cloud Next, Google I/O, and periodic challenges like 30 Days of Google Cloud. Collect completion badges free now, and grab skill badges during the giveaways.

Is there a free Gemini certification?

There is a formal Gemini for Google Workspace Certification (introduced in 2025) validating that you can use Gemini across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and the Workspace suite; the training for it is free, though formal certification exams typically carry a fee unless you catch a Google promotion. What is reliably free are course completion badges and certificates across Google's learning platforms. As always, describe what you earned accurately: a Skills Boost badge and a proctored certification are different lines on a resume.

What is the best free Gemini course for beginners?

Two good on-ramps depending on your goal. For everyday productivity, start with Gemini for Google Workspace training, which teaches practical use inside Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, where most people get immediate value. For a deeper technical foundation, take Google Cloud Skills Boost's Generative AI learning path, which covers prompt engineering, multimodal AI, and responsible use, earning free completion badges along the way. Beginners with no coding background should start with the Workspace track.

How do I get Google Cloud Skills Boost credits for free?

Watch Google's calendar. Free access codes and learning passes appear around major events like Google Cloud Next and Google I/O, and Google runs periodic promotions like 30 Days of Google Cloud where participants get free credits and can complete skill-badge labs at no cost. Following the Google Cloud training social accounts or newsletter is the practical way to catch these windows. Between promotions, the free-tier completion badges still let you learn and credential steadily without paying.

Do these badges actually help with jobs?

Used correctly, yes. Google-issued badges are verifiable micro-credentials, and Workspace-Gemini skills map directly to what employers are rolling out. The badges get you past the 'has invested in AI skills' filter; pairing them with concrete ability is what converts interviews. Put the badge on LinkedIn with a specific claim ('automate reporting in Sheets with Gemini') and, ideally, one small project that proves it. Multi-tool credentials (Gemini plus ChatGPT plus Copilot) read especially well in 2026.

How long do free Gemini courses take?

Individual Skills Boost courses run from under an hour to a few hours, and the Generative AI learning path is comfortably done in one to two weeks of part-time study. Workspace-focused Gemini training is quicker still, often a weekend for the fundamentals. The realistic full plan (Workspace track, then the Generative AI path, collecting completion badges throughout) is about a month alongside a job, faster if you push.

Should I learn Gemini or ChatGPT first?

Learn whichever you will use daily, because practice beats sequence. If your work lives in Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, start with Gemini, since the Workspace integration gives immediate returns and the free training targets exactly that. If you use a standalone assistant more, start with ChatGPT via OpenAI Academy's free certificates. The skills transfer heavily, and doing both free tracks within a month or two gives you a multi-tool resume for zero dollars, which is the strongest position.
