When to try: If the connection options are missing entirely
Check that your account is on an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan. The Drive/Workspace integration is not available on ineligible or purely personal free accounts. If needed, use an eligible account.
When to try: If you are on a managed Workspace account
On a work or school account, ask your Workspace admin to confirm that Gemini app access to Workspace apps is enabled (it lets Gemini find info in Drive, Gmail, and Calendar and lets you upload Drive files). Without it, no personal toggle will work.
When to try: When one surface fails but you have another
Decide whether you need the Gemini app or Gemini inside Docs/Drive, they have different capabilities. For reading a specific document, opening Gemini in the side panel of that Doc is often more reliable than asking the standalone app to fetch it.

Use the @ file picker or the exact file name and confirm you have access to that file in Drive. Gemini can only reach files your account can open, and it cannot read a file shared in a way your account cannot access.

For a managed Workspace account, your first stop is your own Workspace admin, they hold the switch that lets Gemini reach app content. Escalate to Google support only if Smart features is on, the extension has been reset, the plan is eligible, admin access is confirmed, and Drive files a normal user can open still will not load, which points to an account-side fault.
