Claude AI Pricing in 2026: Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise
Claude pricing in 2026 starts free and tops out at custom Enterprise contracts. Pro is 20 dollars per month, Max is 100 or 200 dollars per month depending on the usage band, Team is 20 dollars per user per month billed annually (25 dollars monthly) with a 2-seat minimum, and Enterprise is 20 dollars per seat plus usage at API rates. The Free tier handles light use; Pro is the right pick for daily users. Max is for heavy creators and developers hitting Pro caps. Verified July 2026.

How we verify Claude pricing
Every price on this page is checked against the official Anthropic pricing pages (anthropic.com/pricing and the Claude in-app subscription screens). We re-verify quarterly and after major launches. If a price changes, we update the table, FAQs, and AI Visibility block, then advance the verification date. We do not estimate or project pricing.

Claude Free: what you actually get
The Free tier in 2026 gives you Claude Sonnet 5 with daily message caps, limited Opus 5 access during off-peak hours, web search, file upload, and Artifacts. Caps tighten during peak times and reset on a rolling window. For light users who ask Claude a handful of questions a day, Free is genuinely usable. The breaking point is hitting a cap and waiting for it to refill while you are mid-task. That is when Pro pays for itself.
Claude Pro at 20 dollars per month: the default upgrade
Pro is the version most paid Claude users land on. Twenty dollars per month gets you about five times the Free usage, priority Opus 5 access, full Projects (Claude's answer to ChatGPT's custom GPTs), Artifacts for live code and document previews, and early access to new features. Pro is the right tier for daily writers, developers, researchers, and analysts. The single biggest reason to upgrade from Free is removing the friction of cap pauses during work sessions.
Claude Max at 100 dollars and 200 dollars: when you need it
Max sits above Pro and comes in two bands. The 100 dollars per month tier gives you 5x more usage than Pro, which is enough headroom for heavy researchers and writers. The 200 dollars per month tier gives you 20x more usage than Pro, and is the recommended tier for sustained Claude Code sessions. If you are coding with Claude for hours per day, the 200 dollar tier keeps you from hitting caps mid-task. Max does not unlock different models, only more of them.
Claude Team at 20 dollars per seat per month: small-team workspace
A standard Team seat is 20 dollars per user per month billed annually, or 25 dollars monthly, and the minimum is now 2 seats rather than 5, which puts the plan within reach of a two-person studio. You get a shared workspace, admin console, shared Projects (so prompt libraries are reusable across the team), default training opt-out, and consolidated billing. A premium seat at 100 dollars annually, or 125 monthly, adds the Claude Code developer environment for the engineers who need it, so most teams mix a few premium seats into a standard-seat plan.
Claude Enterprise: custom, with SSO and compliance
Enterprise is built for larger organizations that need SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, audit logs, expanded context windows, data residency options, and a dedicated support relationship. Anthropic now lists it as a 20 dollar seat price with usage billed at API rates, so the real cost is driven by the models and task volume your team runs rather than by the seat line. Budget from measured token usage, not from seat count alone, and contact Anthropic sales for a quote.
Claude API: separate billing, separate pricing
The Anthropic API is billed separately from any consumer subscription, and you pay per million tokens by model. As of July 2026: Claude Fable 5 is 10 dollars input and 50 dollars output, Claude Opus 5 is 5 dollars and 25 dollars, Claude Sonnet 5 is 2 dollars and 10 dollars on introductory pricing through 31 August 2026 and then 3 dollars and 15 dollars, and Claude Haiku 4.5 is 1 dollar and 5 dollars. A Pro or Max subscription does not include API credits, and the API is prepaid, so you buy usage credits before it works. If you are building software that calls Claude, sign up at platform.claude.com and pay per token.
What we actually pay for
Inside our editorial and engineering teams, the split is roughly 60 percent on Pro, 25 percent on the Max 200 dollar tier for Claude Code users, and 15 percent on Team for the shared Projects workspace. We have not put any light users on Max. For most non-developer roles, Pro at 20 dollars is the right answer. Max only pays off when you are running Claude Code sessions or analyzing very long documents multiple times per day.
The verdict: which Claude tier should you pick
Free is the right answer for a handful of questions a day. Pro at 20 dollars per month is the right answer for daily users and is the tier we recommend by default. Max at 100 dollars is the right answer when you regularly hit Pro caps but are not a Claude Code power user. Max at 200 dollars is the right answer for sustained Claude Code or long-document work. Team is the right answer when 5 or more people would otherwise pay for Pro separately. Enterprise is the right answer at larger scale or when SSO and compliance are required.
Claude pricing FAQ
How much does Claude AI cost per month in 2026?
Claude Pro is 20 dollars per month, the most popular paid tier. Claude Max is 100 dollars per month for the 5x usage band or 200 dollars per month for the 20x band. A Team standard seat is 20 dollars per user per month billed annually, or 25 dollars monthly, with a 2-seat minimum. Enterprise is 20 dollars per seat plus usage at API rates. The Free tier is genuinely free with daily caps. All prices are verified July 2026 against the official Anthropic pricing page.
Is Claude Pro worth 20 dollars per month?
If you use Claude more than three times a week, yes. Pro removes the strict daily caps Free imposes, gives you priority access to Claude Opus 5 during peak hours, full Projects with saved context, and Artifacts for live previews of code and documents. Pro is the right tier for almost any daily Claude user, including writers, developers, researchers, and analysts. If you only ask Claude one or two questions a day, Free is enough.
What is Claude Max and who needs it?
Claude Max is a power-user tier above Pro. It comes in two bands. The 100 dollars per month tier gives you 5x more usage than Pro. The 200 dollars per month tier gives you 20x more usage than Pro. Both unlock the same models and features as Pro but raise your caps so you can run Claude Code sessions, analyze huge documents, or have sustained creative sessions without hitting limits. If you find yourself bumping into Pro caps several times a day, Max pays off.
Is there a free version of Claude?
Yes. The Free tier gives you Claude Sonnet 5 with daily message caps, limited Opus 5 access, web search, file upload, and Artifacts. Caps tighten during peak hours and reset on a rolling window. For most light users, Free covers a few quick questions per day. The trade-off is unpredictable rate limits and lower priority. For daily work, upgrade to Pro.
How does Claude Pro compare to ChatGPT Plus and Gemini Advanced?
All three are priced at about 20 dollars per month as of July 2026. Claude Pro is 20 dollars per month, ChatGPT Plus is 20 dollars per month, and Google AI Pro (Gemini Advanced) is about 20 dollars per month. Headline cost has effectively converged. The choice is about which model fits your work: Claude tends to win for long documents and code, ChatGPT for the broadest ecosystem, and Gemini for Google Workspace integration. See our comparison for tier-by-tier differences.
What does Claude Team cost and what is the minimum?
A Claude Team standard seat is 20 dollars per user per month billed annually, or 25 dollars per user per month billed monthly. The minimum is 2 seats and the plan runs up to 150. A premium seat, which adds the Claude Code developer environment, is 100 dollars per seat annually or 125 monthly. You get a shared workspace, central admin, shared Projects, default training opt-out, and consolidated billing. Team is the right tier when two or more people would otherwise be paying for Pro separately, because you also get the workspace and shared Projects benefit.
What does Claude Enterprise cost?
Claude Enterprise pricing is custom and requires contacting Anthropic sales for a quote. It scales with seat count, expected token volume, custom data retention, and any compliance or residency requirements. Enterprise adds SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, audit logs, expanded context windows, and a dedicated support relationship. Public reports put pricing in the 60 to 90 dollar range per user per month at common commit sizes, but exact pricing varies.
Does Anthropic offer a student discount?
Anthropic does not publish a permanent consumer student discount as of July 2026. Some universities have institutional Anthropic deployments through Enterprise contracts, but there is no public Claude Edu tier comparable to ChatGPT Edu. Students who need a paid plan typically subscribe to Pro at the standard 20 dollars per month rate. Anthropic occasionally runs targeted offers during US back-to-school windows.
Is Claude Code included with Claude Pro?
Yes. Claude Code, the command-line developer agent, is included with Claude Pro at 20 dollars per month. Pro gives you enough usage for moderate development sessions. If you use Claude Code as your primary coding tool for hours per day, the Max 200 dollars per month tier is the recommended option because Claude Code is usage-intensive and the 20x band keeps you from hitting caps mid-session.
Is the Claude API separate from the Claude Pro subscription?
Yes. The Anthropic API is billed separately by token (input tokens and output tokens are priced individually per model). A Claude Pro subscription does not include API credits, and API usage does not count against your Pro caps. If you are building software that calls Claude, you pay for the API separately at platform.claude.com. Pro and Max subscriptions are only for the consumer Claude.ai web and desktop apps.
Can I cancel Claude Pro or Max at any time?
Yes. Claude Pro and Max are month-to-month subscriptions you can cancel anytime in your account settings. You keep access until the end of the billing period you have already paid for, then drop back to the Free tier. Team annual plans follow standard annual commitment terms, so review the contract before signing at the discounted annual rate.
Has Claude pricing changed recently?
Yes. Team seat pricing came down to 20 dollars per seat annually and 25 monthly, from 25 and 30, and Anthropic cut the Team seat minimum from 5 seats to 2, so a two-person studio can now buy the plan. Enterprise moved to a 20 dollar seat price with usage billed at API rates, which removed the bundled token allowance that used to come with higher seat prices. Pro has held at 20 dollars per month, and the Max bands at 100 and 200. We re-verify every price on this page on a quarterly cadence. Last verified August 1, 2026.
