How we wrote and checked these 50 prompts
We ran each template on Recraft V3 in May 2026 in vector mode where it made sense, watching three things: did the shapes stay clean and editable, did the brand Style hold across a set, and did placed text land where the prompt asked. Prompts that produced node-heavy messes were simplified toward flat shapes until they exported cleanly.
The credit-cost table below comes from Recraft's own documentation and pricing, verified May 2026. Credit amounts and plan prices change, so the page points you to recraft.ai to re-verify rather than treating today's numbers as fixed.
How to write a Recraft prompt for clean vectors
Set output to Vector, then describe flat shapes and a small palette. Recraft turns simple, graphic descriptions into editable paths and busy, photoreal ones into a tangle of stray points.
Exports clean
Flat vector logo of a paper crane, single continuous line, teal on white, minimal, lots of negative space.
Flat, minimal, two colors, one subject. The SVG opens with a handful of editable paths.
Comes out as a mess
A photorealistic crane with detailed feathers, soft gradients, misty background, intricate shading, ultra-detailed.
Gradients, fine texture, and photoreal shading force hundreds of stray points. The vector is unusable.
Pro tip from our testing
Draft as raster first at 1 credit to settle the idea, then regenerate the winner as vector at 2 credits. It is cheaper than burning vector credits on rough concepts, and you only pay the vector premium for the version you keep.
Recraft credit costs by action

50 Recraft prompts by use case
Copy a line, set output to Vector where noted, and swap in your subject. Each prompt is written to keep shapes flat and editable, which is what makes a Recraft output worth exporting.
Vector logos
Set output to Vector so you can export SVG. Ask for flat shapes and minimal detail.
- Flat vector logo of a folded paper crane, single continuous line style, deep teal on white, minimal, balanced negative space.
- Vector wordmark logo for a fintech brand, geometric sans-serif, an upward arrow built into the letter A, navy and mint, clean.
- Minimal vector logo of a mountain inside a circle, two-tone flat shapes, forest green and cream, outdoor brand feel.
- Vector logo of a coffee bean shaped like a leaf, organic curves, warm brown, suitable for a small icon and a large sign.
- Geometric vector logo of an owl made from simple triangles and circles, indigo and gold, smart and modern, flat.
Icon sets
Use Recraft Sets to keep stroke weight and style consistent across the whole group.
- A set of 6 line icons for a weather app (sun, cloud, rain, snow, wind, storm), 2px uniform stroke, rounded ends, single color.
- Flat filled icon set for a finance dashboard (wallet, chart, card, coins, bank, lock), two-tone teal, consistent 1:1 grid.
- A set of 8 outline icons for a fitness app, minimal geometric style, equal stroke weight, monochrome charcoal.
- Duotone icon set for an e-commerce site (cart, tag, box, truck, return, star), soft coral and navy, friendly and clean.
- A cohesive set of 5 app-style glyphs for productivity (calendar, note, timer, inbox, focus), rounded flat shapes, purple.
Flat illustrations
Recraft's flat 2D styles are strong. Name the palette and keep the composition simple.
- Flat 2D illustration of a person working at a desk with a plant and coffee, soft pastel palette, gentle shadows, vector style.
- Minimal flat illustration of a city skyline at sunset, layered silhouettes, warm gradient sky, clean geometric shapes.
- Flat vector scene of hikers reaching a summit, simple shapes, muted earth tones, sense of accomplishment, editorial style.
- Cozy flat illustration of a cat sleeping by a window with rain outside, soft blues and creams, rounded forms, calm mood.
- Flat illustration of a team collaborating around a table, diverse characters, bright friendly palette, corporate-blog style.
Brand style creation
Build a reusable Style from a few references, then prompt against it for a consistent brand look.
- A brand illustration in our house style: a smiling delivery rider with a parcel, flat shapes, brand teal and coral, vector.
- On-brand spot illustration of a laptop with a growth chart, matching our flat 2D style, consistent line weight, two-tone.
- Brand-style hero graphic of abstract overlapping circles suggesting connection, our palette, soft and modern, vector.
- On-brand icon of a handshake in our flat style, simple geometry, brand colors only, suitable for a feature card.
- Brand illustration of a customer leaving a five-star review, our house flat style, friendly characters, consistent shapes.
Stickers and badges
Vector output with a thick outline survives shrinking to small sizes. Keep the text short.
- Die-cut vector sticker reading "Good vibes only", a smiling sun, thick white border, bright flat colors, bold and simple.
- Vector badge of a rocket launching, circular emblem, retro space-program style, navy and orange, clean lines.
- Round vector badge "Est. 2026", laurel wreath border, vintage monoline style, forest green on cream.
- Vector sticker of a happy avocado giving a thumbs up, kawaii flat style, soft outline, pastel green.
- Vector merit badge "Trail Ready", a pine tree and a compass, scout-patch style, muted retro palette, embroidered look.
Tileable patterns
Ask for a repeating tile and a limited palette. Vector patterns scale to any print size.
- Tileable vector pattern of tropical leaves and small flowers, flat shapes, two greens and a blush pink, repeating edges.
- Repeating geometric vector pattern of overlapping arcs, mid-century modern, mustard, teal, and cream, edge-matched tile.
- Tileable vector pattern of tiny coffee cups and beans, flat line style, warm brown on off-white, repeats for packaging.
- Repeating vector pattern of stars and moons, simple shapes, navy and gold, edge-matched, suitable for gift wrap.
- Tileable terrazzo-style vector pattern, scattered organic flecks, soft pastel palette on white, repeating, modern.
Infographic and UI elements
Vector keeps charts and UI crisp at any zoom. Specify clean shapes and a single accent color.
- Vector infographic element: a clean 4-step process arrow with simple icons in each segment, blue accent, flat, labeled spaces.
- Flat vector illustration of an empty-state UI graphic, a friendly box with a magnifying glass, soft gray and teal.
- Vector pie chart graphic with 4 segments, flat modern style, balanced palette, room for percentage labels, crisp edges.
- Vector hero spot for a pricing page, three stacked cards suggesting tiers, minimal flat style, brand blue accent.
- Vector onboarding illustration of a checklist being completed, simple character, flat shapes, encouraging green palette.
Product mockups
Use the Mockup tool (2 credits) to place a finished design on a realistic product.
- Place this logo on a matte black coffee mug mockup, soft studio light, neutral background, centered, photoreal product shot.
- Mockup of this label wrapped on a glass kombucha bottle, condensation droplets, clean white backdrop, premium feel.
- Place this pattern on a tote bag mockup held by a model, natural daylight, lifestyle setting, soft focus background.
- Mockup of this icon set displayed on a smartphone app screen, hand holding the phone, modern minimal scene.
- Place this poster design in a thin black frame mockup on a light gray wall, gallery lighting, straight-on view.
Editorial and spot illustration
For blog and article art, ask for a concept plus a mood. Flat vector reads cleanly on the web.
- Editorial spot illustration about work-life balance, a figure juggling a laptop and a plant, flat style, calm palette.
- Conceptual vector illustration of ideas connecting, lightbulbs linked by lines, minimal flat style, blue and yellow.
- Spot illustration about online privacy, a shield over a phone, simple flat shapes, trustworthy teal and navy.
- Editorial illustration of remote teamwork, two figures on screens shaking hands across distance, warm flat palette.

- Minimal vector poster with "Less, but better" centered, lots of negative space, monochrome, gallery print style.
- Vector poster with "GROW" placed over a stylized plant illustration, fresh green palette, clean modern layout.
- Recruitment poster with "We are hiring" at the top and simple flat office illustration below, friendly brand palette.
- Vector sale poster with "50% OFF" placed boldly center, confetti shapes around it, bright energetic flat colors.
What surprised us prompting Recraft for vectors
The first lesson cost us credits. We prompted for a detailed, shaded vector logo and got an SVG with so many stray points it was uneditable. The fix was counterintuitive: ask for less. Flat shapes, two colors, single line. The simpler the prompt, the cleaner the paths, and the more useful the export.
The brand Style system was the real unlock. We built a Style from five of our flat illustrations once, and after that, plain prompts like a person at a desk came back already on-brand. For a whole blog illustration set, that consistency saved more time than any single clever prompt did.
Text placement actually worked, which we did not expect from an image model. Asking Recraft V3 to put a short headline at the top of a poster landed most of the time. It is not flawless past a few words, but for badges and poster titles it held up where other generators scatter the letters.
The drafting workflow that stuck: rough it as raster at 1 credit, lock the idea, then spend the 2 vector credits only on the keeper. We had been burning vector credits on rough concepts. Splitting the steps cut our spend and left us with clean files at the end instead of node soup.
Which prompts to start with (and when Recraft is the wrong tool)
Our take after running the full set. Pick the row that matches you.
Start with vector logos and icon sets
This is exactly what Recraft is built for. Flat, scalable, exportable. A simple logo or a consistent icon set is where you see the SVG payoff immediately and learn the flat-shapes habit.
Use a saved Style for any multi-asset project
Blog illustrations, a slide deck, a marketing set: build the Style once, then prompt plainly. Consistency across a library is Recraft’s biggest advantage over single-shot generators.
Skip Recraft for photoreal hero imagery
If you need a moody, photographic hero shot, Midjourney or a photoreal model fits better. Forcing photorealism into vector mode produces messy files, and raster mode is not Recraft’s strongest suit.
Watch the Creative Upscale cost
Creative Upscale runs 20 credits, twenty times a raster generation. It is worth it for a final hero asset, but do not upscale drafts. Lock the design first, then upscale once at the end.
Recraft prompt questions, answered
What is Recraft and who makes it?
Recraft is an AI design tool built by Recraft, a London-based startup. It generates raster images and, unusually, true vector graphics you can export as SVG. Its flagship model, Recraft V3, launched October 30, 2024 and topped the Artificial Analysis Text-to-Image leaderboard at release. Recraft pairs the model with an infinite canvas, a reusable brand style system, a mockup generator, vectorization, and background removal. It is aimed at designers, sellers, and teams who need assets that drop into a real production pipeline, not just pretty pictures.
What makes Recraft different from other image generators?
Two things. First, it outputs editable vector graphics, so a logo or icon can scale from a favicon to a billboard without going blurry, and you can export an SVG and tweak the paths in Illustrator or Figma. Second, it has a brand style system: you teach it a look from a few reference images, then every new generation matches that style. Most generators only make raster images in whatever style the prompt suggests. Recraft is built around consistency and production-ready files.
How do I prompt Recraft for clean vector output?
Set the output type to Vector before generating, then ask for flat shapes, simple geometry, and a limited palette. Words like flat, minimal, geometric, two-tone, and single continuous line steer the model toward clean paths. Avoid asking for photorealism, gradients with fine detail, or busy textures, since those produce messy vectors with hundreds of stray points. The cleaner and more graphic your description, the more editable the resulting SVG. Think poster art and iconography, not photography.
What is the brand style system and how do I use it in a prompt?
A Style in Recraft is a saved visual fingerprint you create from a handful of reference images or by tuning an existing preset. Once saved, you select it before generating and your prompt renders in that exact look, matching color, line weight, and shape language. In practice you build a Style from your brand illustrations once, then write plain prompts like a delivery rider with a parcel and get on-brand output every time. It is the fastest way to keep a whole asset library visually consistent.
How do Recraft credits work for vectors versus raster?
Recraft meters generations in credits. A standard raster image costs 1 credit, a vector image costs 2, a mockup costs 2, vectorizing an upload costs 2, background removal costs 1, and a Creative Upscale costs 20, which makes it the priciest single action by far. Plan around that: draft cheaply as raster, then regenerate the keeper as vector. Recraft's free plan grants a daily credit allowance for trials, and paid plans add monthly credits plus commercial rights. Check recraft.ai/pricing for the latest allotment (pricing current to May 2026).
Can I export real SVG files from Recraft?
Yes, that is the headline feature. When you generate in vector mode, the result is a genuine vector you can download as SVG and open in any vector editor, where the shapes are editable paths rather than a flattened image. This is why Recraft suits logos, icons, and illustrations destined for print or a design system. Raster generations export as PNG. If your job ends in a developer handoff or a printer, generate vector so the file arrives in the format the next person actually needs.
How do I place text exactly where I want it?
Recraft V3 was the first model in its class to place text at specific positions, so you can say put the words at the top or center the title and it largely listens. Put the exact phrase in quotes, keep it short, and describe its location and the surrounding layout. For posters and badges this is reliable. As with any model, longer copy degrades, so reserve Recraft for headlines and labels and add paragraph text in a design tool afterward if the layout calls for it.
What is the leaderboard claim about Recraft V3?
At its October 2024 launch, Recraft V3 reached the number one spot on the Artificial Analysis Text-to-Image leaderboard hosted on Hugging Face, with a reported Elo around 1172, ahead of FLUX 1.1 Pro, Midjourney v6.1, and DALL-E 3 HD at the time. Benchmarks shift as new models ship, so treat the ranking as a launch-window snapshot rather than a permanent title. The practical takeaway holds: Recraft V3 is a top-tier model for design-oriented work and especially for text and vectors.
What does the Recraft mockup generator do?
The mockup tool places a finished design onto a realistic product or scene, such as a mug, a bottle, a tote, a phone screen, or a framed poster on a wall. It costs 2 credits per mockup. You generate or upload your logo, label, or artwork, pick a mockup template, and Recraft composites it with believable lighting and perspective. It is handy for product listings, pitch decks, and social posts where you want to show how a design looks in the real world without a photo shoot.
What does the free tier allow, and are outputs cleared for client work?
The free plan gives daily credits suited to trying the tool and personal projects, usually with public generations. Paid tiers add monthly credits, private generation, and commercial usage rights, which is what you want for client logos and products you sell. Licensing terms and credit amounts shift over time, so confirm the current details on recraft.ai before shipping billable work (terms current to May 2026). For paid deliverables, a Recraft subscription is the route that covers commercial use and keeps your files private.
How does Recraft compare to Midjourney and Ideogram for design?
They serve different ends of design. Midjourney leads on painterly, photoreal mood. Ideogram leads on rendering correct text in raster images for posters and social. Recraft leads on production assets: true vector output, a reusable brand style, and precise text placement. If you need an SVG logo or a consistent icon set, Recraft is the natural pick. If you need a striking photoreal hero image, Midjourney fits better. Plenty of designers use Recraft for the system and another tool for the imagery.
My vector came out messy with too many points. How do I clean it up?
Messy vectors usually trace back to a prompt that asked for detail vectors do not handle well: gradients, photoreal shading, fine texture, or a cluttered scene. Simplify the description toward flat shapes, fewer colors, and one clear subject. Words like minimal, flat, geometric, and bold outline help. If a generation is close but heavy, regenerate with a simpler prompt rather than editing hundreds of stray nodes. As a last resort, export the SVG and run a path-simplify pass in your vector editor.
Does Recraft offer an API for developers?
Yes. Recraft exposes an image generation API with the same vector, style, and brand capabilities as the app, billed per image. Public pricing for the API has been around $0.04 for a raster image and $0.08 for a vector image, though rates can change, so check recraft.ai for current figures (May 2026 rates). Teams use the API to generate on-brand assets at scale, automate icon and illustration pipelines, or build design features into their own products without a human in the loop each time.
The credit-smart Recraft workflow. Draft cheap as raster, pay the vector premium only on the keeper.
