Can I use Claude Fable 5 on Claude.ai, and on which plan?

Claude Fable 5 is available on Claude.ai for paid users. It launched on June 9, 2026, was pulled offline on June 12 under US export controls, and was restored on July 1, 2026, at which point it became selectable again through the model picker on Pro and higher plans, as well as in Claude Code, the API, and on Amazon Bedrock.

Because Fable 5 is Anthropic's most capable, premium-priced model (a Mythos-class tier above Opus), it sits on the paid side. Free users work with Sonnet 4.6 and do not get Fable 5. On Pro you can select it for the hardest tasks, though its heavier cost means it draws on your usage budget faster than Sonnet or Opus, so it is best reserved for the jobs that truly need it.

If you saw a 'Fable 5 unavailable' or 'invalid model' error in June 2026, that was during the export-control pause; after July 1 it works normally, and the fix for any lingering error is to update your client and refresh the model list.
