- Bypassing captchas, which it refuses
- Entering sensitive information without asking you to confirm

Step by step

Confirm you are on a paid plan
Claude in Chrome requires Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. It is not available on Free, and there is no waitlist any more.

Install from the Chrome Web Store
Add the extension to Chrome, sign in to your Claude account, then pin it so it is reachable. It must be Google Chrome specifically.

Grant permissions deliberately
Read what you are granting. The extension can see and act on pages, which is exactly the point and exactly the risk. The desktop-app connector is off by default and enabled per conversation.

Start on something low-stakes
Give it a harmless task on a site where a mistake costs nothing. Watching how it behaves once is worth more than reading about it.

Expect and read the confirmations
It asks before entering sensitive information and before some downloads, and financial sites need permission. Treat each prompt as a real decision rather than clicking through.

Keep it away from your most sensitive tabs
Anthropic itself calls this still risky. Be deliberate about which sites you let it operate on, particularly anything involving money, health or credentials.

A safe first task to try
Try something read-only and verifiable before you let it act. For example: "Look at the three tabs I have open, and summarise what each page is about and how they differ. Do not click anything, do not fill in any form, and do not navigate away from these tabs." Once you have seen how it reports back, try a small action with an obvious outcome, such as filling one non-sensitive form field, and check the result yourself before going further.

Common mistakes
- Expecting it on the Free plan, which does not include it.
- Trying to install it in Edge, Brave or Arc. Anthropic supports Google Chrome only.
- Clicking through permission and confirmation prompts without reading them.
- Letting it operate on banking, health or credential pages, where the risk is highest.
- Assuming beta means finished. Anthropic explicitly describes the browser experience as still risky.

Frequently asked questions
Which plans include Claude in Chrome?
All paid plans: Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. It is not available on the Free plan. The waitlist that existed when it launched has ended, so you can install it directly from the Chrome Web Store.
Is Claude in Chrome out of beta?
It depends where you use it. Anthropic states it is generally available inside Claude Cowork and Claude Code, but still in beta in the Chrome browser itself. So describing it flatly as generally available is only half right, and the browser extension is the beta part.
Does Claude in Chrome work in Edge or Brave?
No. Anthropic supports Google Chrome specifically and explicitly says other Chromium-based browsers are not supported. It is also not available on mobile.
Is it safe to let Claude control my browser?
Anthropic applies safety classifiers and still describes the capability as risky in its own documentation, which is worth taking at face value. It refuses to bypass captchas, asks for confirmation before entering sensitive information, and requires permission for financial sites. Be deliberate about which pages you let it work on.
