How v0 pricing actually works

v0 works differently from the token or credit counters you see on most AI builders. Your plan includes a dollar amount of credits each month, for example $30 per user on Plus . Every message you send is measured in tokens, and those tokens are charged against your credits at the rate of the model you picked.

v0 publishes those rates per one million tokens :

v0 modelInputOutput
v0 Mini$0.20/1M$1.20/1M
v0 Pro$2/1M$10/1M
v0 Max$5/1M$25/1M
v0 Max Fast$10/1M$50/1M

The official table also lists cache write and cache read rates, with discounted cache reads and separately priced cache writes; cache writes can cost more than fresh input. Do the math on output: v0 Max output costs 25 ÷ 1.20, about 21 times what v0 Mini charges per token . Model choice is the biggest lever you control.

What eats credits fastest

  • Input tokens you never typed. v0's own FAQ addresses "Why do messages use so many input tokens? My prompts are short." Your chat history, project files and instructions are sent with each message, so a long chat gets more expensive over time.
  • Defaulting to the biggest model. Max and Max Fast are great for hard problems and wasteful for button tweaks.
  • Long single chats. The longer one chat runs, the more context each new message carries.
  • Regenerating whole screens when you only wanted one component changed.

What happens when you hit the cap

When included monthly credits run out, you can buy additional credits outside your monthly usage. On team plans those purchased credits are shared across the team. Purchased credits expire after one year and require an active paid plan to use; monthly credits expire after 65 days, according to the billing documentation. The $2 daily login credit can keep light users going between renewals.

What a real project costs

These are illustrative estimates based on published plan limits. Actual credit use depends on model choice and how much context each chat carries.

Scenario A: a landing page in an afternoon. One person, a hero section, pricing table and signup form. Using v0 Mini or v0 Pro for most of the work keeps this small. The Free plan's 7 messages a day may be enough if your prompts are tight, but the daily cap makes iteration slow. One month of Plus at $30 removes that friction.

Scenario B: an MVP with auth and a database over a month. Plus provides $30 in monthly credits. Daily login credits may offset eligible work on the days you use them; do not treat a month of possible daily grants as a guaranteed balance for a single build. Measure model and context usage, then budget for extra credits and any hosting or database bill.

Scenario C: a five-person product team. Five Plus seats cost 5 × $30 = $150/month . Five Business seats cost 5 × $100 = $500/month . The $350 monthly gap buys training opt-out by default. Both tiers list the same included credits per user, so Business is a data policy decision, not a usage upgrade.

Free plan: what you get and the real limits

New Free users receive $5 one-time credits. Existing Free accounts may retain their monthly grant. The Free plan also includes, per the official page :

  • Free access to v0
  • Deploying apps to Vercel
  • Visual editing with Design Mode
  • GitHub sync
  • A 7 message per day limit

The real limit is the message cap. Seven messages is a daily cap, not a promise that a component or app will be completed. Debugging and follow-ups also consume the allowance. Free also does not list access to all models, which Plus and Business do.

Hidden or extra costs

  • Vercel hosting. v0 deploys to Vercel, and production traffic, functions and bandwidth fall under your Vercel account's plan, not your v0 plan. Check Vercel's own pricing if your app gets real traffic.
  • Per-seat scaling. Every collaborator is another full seat. A team doubles, your bill doubles.
  • Extra credits. Heavy months mean buying credits on top of the plan.
  • Premium model choice. Picking Max Fast for routine work multiplies cost per message.
  • Databases and third-party services. Auth providers, databases and APIs you wire into your app bill separately.
  • Taxes. VAT or GST is added based on billing address.

Is v0 worth it? Who should pay, who should not

Pay for v0 Plus if you build in React and Next.js, you already deploy on Vercel, and you want polished UI fast. The model price table is transparent, so a disciplined user who picks Mini for small tasks can stretch credits a long way.

Choose Business only if your company requires that prompts and code are not used for training by default. You do not get more included credits for the extra $70 per seat .

Skip v0 if you want one flat price for a large team, or you want a builder that hides hosting and backend choices from you. Per-seat billing plus separate Vercel costs can surprise non-technical teams.

For one person, the gap is small: v0 Plus costs $5 more per month than Lovable Pro or Bolt Pro on the checked monthly figures . For teams the gap widens, because v0 charges per user while Lovable's FAQ says workspaces support unlimited members and plans are priced by credits, not seats .

How to save money on v0

  1. Match the model to the job. Use v0 Mini for copy changes, spacing and simple components. Save v0 Max for architecture, tricky state and bugs Mini cannot fix.
  2. Start new chats often. When a feature is done, open a fresh chat for the next one so you stop paying for old context on every message.
  3. Log in daily if you are building. The $2 daily login credit adds up over a month.
  4. Keep seats tight. Give seats to people who build. Reviewers can often work from shared chats or deployed previews.
  5. Prototype on Free. Use the free daily messages to test whether v0 suits your stack before paying.

Prompts that cut v0 credit burn

Shorter context and clearer targets mean fewer regenerations. Try these:

1. Component-only edit

Edit only the <PricingTable /> component. Keep all props and styles.
Add a "Most popular" badge to the middle card using the existing
accent color. Do not regenerate the page.

2. Spec first, code second

I need a settings page with profile, password and notifications tabs.
Using Next.js App Router and shadcn/ui, list the components and
file names you will create. No code yet.

3. Handoff summary for a new chat

Summarize this project in under 150 words: stack, key files, data
model and open issues. I will paste it into a new chat to continue.

The third prompt pairs with tip 2: you carry a compact summary into a fresh chat instead of hauling the full history. Find more in our v0 prompts library or generate one with the v0 prompt generator.

FAQ

How much does v0 cost?

v0 is free to start. Plus costs $30 per user per month , Business costs $100 per user per month , and Enterprise is custom. Prices exclude tax.

Is v0 free?

Yes. The Free plan includes v0 access, Vercel deploys, Design Mode and GitHub sync, with a limit of 7 messages per day .

How do v0 credits work?

Paid plans include a dollar amount of credits each month, $30 per user on Plus . Each message is measured in input and output tokens and charged at the rate of the model you chose, from v0 Mini (cheapest) to v0 Max Fast (most expensive).

Is v0 billed per user?

Yes. Plus and Business are priced per user per month, and each user gets their own included credits. Additional purchased credits are shared across the team.

Why does v0 use so many input tokens when my prompts are short?

Each message also carries context, such as earlier chat turns and project files. Long chats cost more per message. Starting fresh chats with a short summary keeps input tokens down.

Is Vercel hosting included in v0 pricing?

You can deploy to Vercel from every plan, including Free. Hosting usage for live apps is governed by your Vercel account plan, so check Vercel pricing for production traffic .
