Assessments and application status

Silence is the most common outcome and the hardest to read. Start from what each platform says it will do, then treat anything beyond that as uncertain.

How long does it take to hear back after the starter assessment?

DataAnnotation says applicants typically receive an approval email within a few days of completing the Starter Assessment. Other platforms vary: Mercor notifies you when an application moves to the next stage, and TELUS says you are notified by email or your dashboard if selected. Longer waits are common in practice.

Does silence after an assessment mean rejection?

Not necessarily, but it is not a good sign after a few weeks. DataAnnotation's FAQ says that if you have not heard back or received assignments, your application is likely still under review or was not accepted, and that it will contact you if you pass and have matching work. It also says it cannot reply to every applicant.

How can I tell whether my assessment was submitted successfully?

Look for a confirmation screen or email, and a changed status on your dashboard. If neither appears, take a screenshot of the page and contact support from inside your account. Mercor, for example, sends a submission email and marks assessments Completed only when they meet minimum criteria such as duration.

Does a shorter Core assessment mean I failed?

No platform publishes that test length signals a result. Assessments can be adaptive or vary by track, and DataAnnotation says it reviews for thoroughness and accuracy rather than speed. Wait for the result email rather than reading meaning into length.

Does an empty project dashboard after the assessment mean I was accepted?

Not by itself. DataAnnotation says that if you pass you gain platform access and can start choosing projects, and that it will contact you; an empty dashboard with no approval email usually means review is still pending or you were not accepted.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Why did the Core test send me to the dashboard without a result?

That is the normal flow: results are reviewed, not shown instantly. DataAnnotation emails a decision within a few days. Keep the email address on your account monitored, including spam.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

What does an acceptance screen look like compared with a rejection?

On DataAnnotation, acceptance arrives as an email and you then gain platform access and can begin selecting projects. Rejection often arrives as silence rather than a message. Other platforms show statuses such as Submitted, Passed or Not qualified; micro1 gives a real-time result after its AI interview.

Does acceptance time differ between Core, STEM, and coding tests?

DataAnnotation gives one general timeline, a few days, for the Starter Assessment and does not publish separate times per track. Specialist assessments take longer to complete (one to two hours), and expert reviews may take longer to process, so allow extra time for STEM and coding.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Can projects appear without an acceptance email?

It happens, because emails get filtered or delayed. If projects appear on your dashboard, you have access. Check spam and promotions folders, and add the platform's domain to your contacts.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Can an application still progress after many months in review?

Occasionally, when a project with matching needs opens, but it is unusual. DataAnnotation says it contacts you if you pass and have work that matches your skills, which can mean a delay. Do not wait on it: apply to other platforms in the meantime.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Could an undisclosed regional restriction leave my application permanently stuck?

Yes, it is a common cause. Eligibility depends on country, payment providers and client rules, which applicants often discover late. Check published country lists, such as Mercor's supported countries and Mindrift's restrictions, before investing time.

Source: Mercor Docs: Supported Countries for Payment; Mindrift: Eligibility and geographic restrictions

Can an apparently unsuccessful application be reopened months later?

Sometimes platforms re-invite applicants when demand changes, but you cannot count on it. On single-attempt tests such as DataAnnotation's Starter Assessment, there is no second chance on the same account.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Why did my Core assessment disappear when I took a break?

Some assessments time out or close a session after inactivity, and autosave is not always reliable; Mercor, for example, warns that autosave is not guaranteed and advises completing assessments in one session. Contact support with screenshots and the time it happened.

Source: Mercor Docs: Assessments

Can support restore access to a disappeared assessment?

Sometimes, for technical faults. Write to support from inside your account with the assessment name, date, time and screenshots. Note that DataAnnotation says it cannot reply to every applicant individually, so a reply is not guaranteed.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Why does my qualification email say access is open while my dashboard says otherwise?

Usually a sync delay or a qualification that has already filled. Refresh, sign out and back in, and check again later. If it persists, contact support with the email and a dashboard screenshot.

Why do congratulations emails link to unavailable qualifications?

Qualifications open and close as client demand changes, so an invitation can expire or fill before you reach it. Act on invitations quickly, and if the link fails, report it through support with the email attached.

Why was I never offered a starter assessment after signing up?

Some platforms only offer assessments that match current demand, your country or your languages. On DataAnnotation you choose a qualification track at sign-up; if nothing appears, check that your profile is complete and contact support from your account.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Is an assessment unexpectedly resetting a genuine second chance?

Do not assume so. DataAnnotation says its Starter Assessment can only be taken once with no retakes. A reset is more likely a technical fault; contact support before retaking, so you do not risk your account.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Can I retake a failed or unanswered DataAnnotation assessment?

No. DataAnnotation states the Starter Assessment can only be taken once and that there are no retakes or second chances, so it advises reading instructions carefully and reviewing answers before submitting.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

Does creating another account to retake a test risk breaking platform rules?

Yes. Multiple accounts are a standard ban reason: Mercor names operating multiple accounts as an identity violation, and OneForma prohibits using a payment account already linked to another user. Identity verification makes duplicates easy to detect, and you can lose any earnings on both accounts.

What should I do if the assessment page freezes or must be refreshed?

Do not keep refreshing a timed test. Take a screenshot, note the time, check your connection, and try once more. Mercor, for example, warns that reloading a timed assessment can lose an answer and recommends a stable connection and one sitting. Report the fault to support straight away.

How hard is the finance qualification?

Professional-track qualifications are built for practitioners. DataAnnotation's professional track asks for licensed credentials in law, finance or medicine, so expect questions that need real professional knowledge, not general reading.

Source: DataAnnotation: FAQs

How do additional specialist qualifications become available?

After you pass the first assessment, platforms open further qualifications based on your profile, performance and client demand. DataAnnotation says you can take additional specialist assessments to unlock higher-paying projects.

Does No tasks available after part one of the TELUS exam mean failure?

Not necessarily. TELUS says exams allow a set number of attempts stated in the instructions and that you are notified by email or your dashboard of the outcome. Check your application status on the dashboard and the exam instructions before assuming a result.

Source: TELUS Digital AI Community: FAQ

Can I retake the TELUS exam if I pass parts one and two but fail part three?

TELUS says most qualification exams allow a specific number of retake attempts, communicated in the exam instructions. If you do not pass within the allotted attempts, the application for that role is unsuccessful. Check your exam instructions for the exact number.

How should I prepare for the judgment-based page-quality section?

Study the guidelines you are given until you can apply them without looking things up, because the exam tests consistency with them, not your personal opinion. Practise rating examples against the guideline, and note the reasoning for each rating.

How do I access a TELUS retake when the invitation link changes nothing?

Email TELUS AI Community support at [email protected] with the exam name, your application and a screenshot of what happens when you click the link.

Source: TELUS Digital AI Community: FAQ

Why does the retake link send me back to my completed application?

Usually the retake has not been enabled on your account yet, or the link is for a different attempt. Contact TELUS support with the link and a screenshot rather than resubmitting the application.

Source: TELUS Digital AI Community: FAQ

Can taking a break during the exam prevent me from finishing it?

On timed or session-based exams, yes. Timers on many platforms keep running once started; Mercor, for example, says timed assessments cannot be paused. Read the exam's timing rules before starting and plan one uninterrupted sitting.

Source: Mercor Docs: Assessments

Did my exam answers submit if the same test is still clickable?

Check your dashboard status or confirmation email rather than the test link. If the status has not changed, contact support with screenshots before resubmitting anything.

How many retakes are allowed for the training academy exam?

It is set per exam. TELUS, for example, says the number of retakes is stated in each exam's instructions. If it is not stated, ask support before your first attempt.

Source: TELUS Digital AI Community: FAQ

Can I keep working while waiting to pass required training?

Usually not on the project that requires it; required training is a gate. Ask your project lead or support whether any other work remains open to you in the meantime.

Can I ask support for another exam attempt?

You can ask, but platforms usually hold to their published limits. TELUS says applications are unsuccessful if you do not pass within the allotted attempts, and DataAnnotation offers no retakes. Requests are most likely to succeed for documented technical failures.

Source: TELUS Digital AI Community: FAQ; DataAnnotation: FAQs

Will failing academy assessments after hiring cost me the job?

It can cost you that project, since passing required training is usually a condition of it. It does not necessarily affect other projects. Ask your project lead what happens if you do not pass before you take it.

How can I improve when feedback only shows a percentage score?

Go back through the guidelines and the questions you found hardest, and look for patterns in where your judgment differs from the guideline's intent. Practise explaining ratings in writing. If feedback can be requested, request it; micro1, for example, lets you ask for feedback if you are not certified.

AI interviews

Many platforms now screen with an AI interviewer. micro1's is called Zara; Mercor's runs about 20 minutes. Both publish preparation guidance and practice tools.

How can a beginner pass a Generalist interview that uses specialist annotation terms?

Learn the core vocabulary in an evening: RLHF (reinforcement learning from human feedback), rubric, side-by-side comparison, ground truth, hallucination and inter-rater agreement. Then focus on what interviews assess, which micro1 describes as how you think, problem-solve and communicate through scenario-based questions.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide

What can I do if the AI speaks too fast to understand?

Ask it to repeat or clarify the question; Mercor's guidance says you can. Use headphones, and turn on captions if offered (Mercor's are on by default). A quiet room and good audio help the AI understand you as well.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview

How should I prepare for Zara beyond knowing my professional field?

micro1 advises choosing one core skill or job type to be evaluated on, using its Interview Prep tool to simulate interviews, and optionally preparing custom questions to showcase your expertise. Expect open-ended technical questions, scenarios, a coding challenge for technical roles and a human data exercise for annotator roles.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide

Which tools are useful for practicing AI interviews?

Start with the platforms' own: micro1's Interview Prep tool and Mercor's free, unlimited practice interview, which is never shared with companies. Practising answers out loud and recording yourself also helps with pacing.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide; Mercor Docs: AI Interview

How difficult are the micro1 interviews?

They are designed to test real-world skill in your chosen role, with open-ended technical and scenario-based questions, plus a coding challenge or data exercise depending on the role. Results come back in real time against micro1's certification criteria. Preparing with the Interview Prep tool is the best way to gauge difficulty.

What can I do when Zara advances before I can answer?

Long pauses commonly trigger AI interviewers to move on; Mercor warns that extended silences may cause its AI to interject. Start speaking promptly, think aloud briefly, and if interrupted, say you were not finished. Report repeated problems to the platform's support.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview

Can a technically broken interview be reset when retakes are unavailable?

Ask support, with evidence. Platforms are most willing to reset for documented technical faults: Mercor lets you retake for a Technical issue and asks for a screenshot or recording. Send the interview name, time, browser and screenshots.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview

How do I challenge a Not Qualified result caused by an interview glitch?

Contact support quickly with proof of the glitch: screenshots, a screen recording, the time and your browser. On micro1, you can also request feedback if certification is not achieved. Platforms decide whether to allow a new attempt.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide; Mercor Docs: AI Interview

Does support resolve AI-interviewer technical problems?

Generally yes, for clear technical faults. Mercor publishes specific fixes (latest Chrome, refresh and rejoin, clear cache, disable VPNs and extensions) and asks you to email support with details if they fail.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview

Why does the dashboard say pending after an interview-completed email?

Completing the interview and being evaluated or matched are separate steps. Mercor, for example, says you are notified when an application moves to the next stage. Pending usually means waiting for review or a matching role.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview

What can I do if the AI mishears my English or attributes words I never said?

Improve the audio first: an external microphone or headset, a quiet room, and clear, steady speech. If a transcription error affected your result, report it to support with details. Mercor, for example, recommends headphones and an external microphone.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview

How long after a Zara interview should I expect results?

micro1 says you get a real-time result indicating whether you meet its certification criteria. Being matched to a paid project after certification is a separate wait that depends on demand.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide

How heavily is the practical scenario weighted versus the verbal interview?

Platforms do not publish weightings. micro1 lists scenario questions, technical questions and a coding challenge or human data exercise as parts of the interview. Prepare for all of them rather than banking on one.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide

Does my interview result apply to every role or only that application?

It depends on the platform. Mercor reuses a completed interview for any application needing the same one. micro1 asks you to choose one core skill or job type to be evaluated on, so a result reflects that skill area.

Source: Mercor Docs: AI Interview; micro1: AI interview guide

Why am I asked to interview immediately after signing up?

Because the AI interview is the main screening step on these platforms, and offering it on demand speeds things up. micro1 says its interview is available anytime, and you do not have to take it immediately: Mercor, for example, advises choosing a time that suits you.

Source: micro1: AI interview guide; Mercor Docs: AI Interview

Why do many applications reach hiring-manager review without producing offers?

Because reviews depend on client needs and capacity as well as your profile. Roles fill, budgets change and some reviewers pick a handful of candidates from many qualified ones. Mercor, for example, cites client needs, project scope and capacity as selection factors.
