What is Grok AI?

Grok is a chatbot and AI assistant from xAI. It answers questions, writes and codes, searches the web and X for current information, analyses images, and creates images and video. It is available on grok.com, in iOS and Android apps, and inside X.

What is the latest Grok model?

Grok 4.7 is xAI's flagship for coding and general use, with agentic tool calling, configurable reasoning and a 500,000-token context window. It reached the API on September 21, 2026 and grok.com's Expert and Heavy modes in early October. Older Grok 4.3 and 4.20 models remain available in the API at lower prices.

Does Grok know current events?

Only when search is used. xAI's documentation notes that Grok has no knowledge of events beyond its training data unless search tools are enabled. In the Grok apps, web and X search are part of the experience, which is its main advantage for news and trending topics.

Is Grok free?

Yes. The free plan gives limited usage of Grok chat and features. Paid plans raise the limits and unlock the latest models, faster responses and more image and video generation.

How much does Grok cost?

xAI's pricing page lists Plus at $8 a month (Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build plus API access), Premium at $30 a month (four times the usage, latest models, faster chat, image and video generation, cloud agents), Super at $100 a month, and Ultra at $200 a month with 50 times the usage of Plus. Prices exclude tax and can change.

How much is the Grok API?

Grok 4.7 costs $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens. Image generation through the Imagine API starts at about $0.02 per image, and voice is priced per minute or per character. Paid consumer plans include API access.

What is Grok Imagine?

Grok Imagine is xAI's image and video generation. The current models are Grok Imagine Image 2.0 and Grok Imagine Video 1.5. Generation draws on your plan's shared usage pool, so heavy video use leaves less for chat.

Does Grok train on my data?

Grok's strengths are real-time X data, a generous image and video bundle and competitive API pricing. ChatGPT offers a broader ecosystem of projects, agents, Codex and integrations. For most people the best choice depends on whether live social data or a wider toolset matters more.
